Life Lately: Found My Zen

Monday

Earlier this weekend I posted this status on Facebook and got a lot of amazing feedback and responses from my friends and family.

Straight and to the point - it is my zen time. Something I hardly get any of. I work full time. I have a ton of hobbies. A hang out with many different groups of friends. I try to run a blog. And on top of of that I still try and spend as much time as I can with my husband and our super needy cats. It was overwhelming. I had no idea that while I was doing all these super fun things, I never really took time for myself. Rock climbing has become that "me time" I was so desperately in need of.

My husband and I talked about it and he agrees, this has been amazing for me. My anxiety problems are more controllable. Just after the first few times of going, my clothes started fitting better and my posture improved. Not to mention I've been in such a better mood (woo yeah endorphins!).

Some people have been asking me:
  • Aren't you afraid you'll fall? What about the heights? ///
I'm harnessed in when climbing the walls and when I go by myself I utilze the automatic balayers. Amazingly enough, my fear of heights is going away with this slowly. I still double check my line a lot of sometimes if I get scared early on in a climb, I'll push myself off just to reafirm that the gear is good.
  • Where do you climb? ///
I climb at Summit Gym in the DFW area. There are three gyms and memberships are super cheap. $40/mo gets you unlimited visits to all the locations, discounts, free gear rental & you can bring a guest once a month. I have my own gear.
  • Is it really that good of a workout? ///
OMG definitely! It's a whole body workout and great for your core. I've found that as I build up some muscles, others start awakening. I love it!
  • Are you going to blog about it? ///
Sure! My blog is about me, myself and I. And currently, we're obsessed with climbing. I've got a few posts queued up for the next 2 weeks and they'll delve into this more. But if you have any questions or suggestions for things you'd like me to post - just ask!

So if I'm not blogging much, know that I'm totally fine you guys. But I am definitely making an effort to get at least one post up here a week, if not two. lol

  1. Awesome! Rock climbing scares me, but I saw a Living Social deal for classes, so maybe I should give it a whirl... I've only done it a few times, and it's just been one of those things where you climb up and ta-da, you're done. Next person in line. lol

  2. I am so excited to hear more about climbing! It's been something that's literally been on my to-do list for MONTHS and it's just been one thing or another keeping me away. I'll live vicariously through you until I get my butt off the couch and my finances in order (out here, the only place I've heard of is a $70/month membership -- but I should probably do more research anyway)!

  3. I've seen quite a lot of buzz appearing about rock climbing lately. I've done it a couple of times and I enjoyed it, unfortunatly, there isn't anywhere nearby for me to get in to it properly, which is a shame :-( I'm hoping to go back to the gym in the new year though. I've become quite lazy!
I'm glad you've found some time for you to get some zen and me time! I hope you continue to enjoy it!

  4. That's awesome! I wish I had the upper body strength or an inability to bruise so easily (practically my super power.) But climbing always seems so fun. Zen it up, lady!
