Edinburgh Pt 3. - Touring the Highlands

Friday

While planning for our trip, I fell trap to pinterest researching all aspects of Edinburgh. I read every list and gathering to get an idea and feel for what to expect. One of the smallest tidbits I found while reading was a blogger who mentioned going on a day trip with the travel company Rabbies.

Even in March, the Scottish highlands are green and beautiful. Words can't put into perspective how breathtaking the scenery was. Even months later, I can still feel the excitement in my heart for how wonderful we had. Every stop there was something to see.

While in Pitlochery, we chose to cut short our lunch to instead go shopping at MacNaughtons Kilt shop. My husband had been wanted to accessorize his kilt and purchased a few items. We then rushed across the street for some quick fish n' chips with plenty of time to stop at a corner shop and grab an ice cream.

Highland Lochs, Glens & Whiskey
It sounded perfect. 9 hours on a bus in a small group, traveling the highlands and finishing at a whiskey distillery. It was 2am and I booked two tickets for the day of our trip that was my husband's birthday. Scotland was the request on his trip, winning out to my Ireland suggestion. He's also a huge scotch lover, so this seemed like the perfect trip! It was a modest £48 per person and worth every penny. Per his words as we were getting off the bus "This has been the single best day of my life"
Places you'll explore
Dunkeld - This village is surrounded by luscious forest, and boasts an incredible ruined cathedral.
The Hermitage - Venture through dense woodland and enjoy gushing views of a gorgeous waterfall.
Pitlochry - This town was one of Queen Victoria’s favorite holiday spots.
Queen’s View - Enjoy an iconic view said to have been a favorite of queens.
Loch Tay and Kenmore - Learn about the Bronze Age loch dwellers at shores of a beautiful loch.
Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery - Taste the ‘water of life’ and learn to love it like a true Scotsman.

Our Rabbies experience:
Amazing! We simply couldn't have been happier. Our driver was quite experienced at this and gave us all the best stories and information. He was funny, talkative and knew when to let people take the moment in. He had all the best secret spots and knew where to go if you wanted the best food. He made the trip for us. He was wonderful at time management and giving clear instructions before we departed to make sure everyone felt like they got the best experience at each stop. Rabbies does trips all over the UK, so we'll definitely use them again the next time we visit. Stephen, if you're reading this somehow - Thank you!
